i have a relatively old road bike that is experiencing something odd. it is an old bianchi ishiwata. what is happening is when i try to pedal downwards, it feels like the chain slips and i dont go anywhere. this normally happens when i down pedal with the most force; usually when pedaling up a hill or taking off from a stop. i posted this before and someone suggested tightening the lock ring. i took it into a shop and they told me it was the rear set of gears. that has been replaced but it has not resolved this problem. perhaps it is still the lock ring? if you guys have any ideas, thatd be very helpful. thanks in advance!
yo, this happened to my older bike too. i used to get my lock ring tightened every week. found out there was this plastic spacer before or after the lock ring..i forgot...but they changed it to stainless steel. hope this helps
yeaah. a lot of people are suggesting its the bottom bracket, and i agree. it makes more sense that its the BB than a stripped hub. i guess i wont really know until i take that shit apart. i suspect its more than just the lock ring, too. thanks for the help guys.
oh no. it is not a conversion. its a 6 speed road bike from '85, and it's ridden as one. but yes, i think the lock ring and BB should be looked at to isolate the problem. sorry for the confusion and not being so clear.
if the lock ring is any bit loose the whole thing will slip around, gotta tighten that down otherwise u could strip the threading on the hub, i had the same problem in the city oh what a bitch that was haha =)
i thought it was the BB aswell but i changed the whole rear wheel out with a new one and the problem stopped, most likely the lockring/rear cog... unless ur bb sucks ass heh gl with the problem
