Ride of Silence to honor fallen bicyclists Wednesday.

Silicon Valley bicyclists will gather Wednesday evening for the local Ride of Silence, one of 283 rides throughout 48 states, 16 countries and Antarctica.

"The purpose of the ride is to remember the cyclists that have been killed on the roads and to get the public to acknowledge that we are out there on the roads," said Pat Parseghian, a Los Gatos resident and organizer of the local ride.

Members of the 1,000-strong Almaden Cycle Touring Club will guide the ride from Homestead High School in Cupertino to the site on Stevens Canyon Road where two cyclists were killed in March.

It will be roughly 9 miles round trip and take about an hour, Parseghian said.

"The ride is open to the public. It's meant to be a pretty easy ride," she said, adding that any kind of bicycle is welcome. "It should be a good experience especially for someone who's not used to riding on the road."

Meet in the student parking lot at Homestead High School, 21370 W. Homestead Road. When: Arrive by 6:30 p.m. The group rolls at 7 p.m.
